1. How much have you done of your book project? What do you have left to do? How do you plan to organize your time and avoid procrastination?
A note on exam: Because of a wide range of exam scores, I would like to offer students the opportunity to do exam corrections so grades are not brought down. Because of this, the exam will be counted as the FIRST grade of the new semester instead of the last grade of the old one. This was decided to avoid having student grades drop at the last minute with little to no time to make it up before grades are submitted. Those who had NO quiz grade will have the exam count for this semester. Questions? Concerns?
Whole Class
Remember to consult the “Common Literary Elements” chart and their
accompanying pamphlets as we read and work.
Read-Aloud: The Pearl Chapter 3 pp. 21-26
Discussion Questions: What does the spreading of the news about the pearl
say about the townspeople and villagers? Why do they consider Kino their
enemy? Do you agree with the following statement: “humans are never
satisfied,... you give them one thing and they want something more”? Why
or why not?
GROUP SESSION: BOOK PROJECT TYPING SESSION!!!!
EARLY FINISHERS Group Session
Assignment #18: Students will work with their group members to determine
how different people view the pearl by examining what they want from it.
Then, they will write paragraphs comparing Kino’s plans for the pearl and
what other people would plan if they had the pearl, making inferences and
conclusions based on the different needs/wants.
Summary/Closing
Students will share their responses during a whole class discussion. They
will then discuss how the pearl is beginning to affect both Kino and the
townspeople. Remind students to study for Quiz #5 on the week’s readings
of The Pearl and their vocabulary.
